Collection and Use of Personal Information
From time to time, ERCOT may ask you for information that personally identifies you (personal information) or allows ERCOT to contact you to provide a service or carry out a transaction that you have requested such as registering for an event or training, subscribing to an email list or requesting access to a secured access website. The personal information we collect may include your name, title, company or organization name, work email, work phone, work or home address, information about your job function and information about your company.
The website may collect certain information about your visit, such as the name of the Internet service provider and the Internet Protocol (IP) address through which you access the Internet; the date and time you access the website; the pages that you access while at the website; and the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site. This information is used to help improve the site, analyze trends and administer the site.
The personal information collected on this website will be used to operate the website and to provide the service(s) or carry out the transaction(s) you have requested or authorized. Except as otherwise described in this statement, personal information you provide on the website will not be shared outside of ERCOT without your permission.
ERCOT may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on ERCOT or the website; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of ERCOT and our family of websites; or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of ERCOT employees or agents, ERCOT market participants or members of the public.
Security of Personal Information
ERCOT is committed to protecting the security of your personal information. ERCOT uses a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. ERCOT restricts access to information about you to those ERCOT employees who need to know the information to respond to your inquiry or request. Employees who misuse personal information are subject to disciplinary action.
Security, Intrusion and Detection for Secured ERCOT Websites
ERCOT provides some links from the public website to secured ERCOT websites to distribute and make available certain material and information that requires access control restrictions. Validated users that demonstrate a verifiable need-to-know will be granted access privileges to such secured section in accordance with ERCOT's security procedures. Such security procedures require that potential users provide ERCOT with some personal information that may be used for access review, security background check and secured section use purposes. Safeguarding the privacy of individuals seeking access to and visiting the secured website is of the utmost importance to ERCOT.
For website security purposes, and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, all network traffic is monitored in order to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage or conduct criminal activity. To protect the system from unauthorized use and to ensure that the system is functioning properly, individuals accessing the secured ERCOT websites are subject to having all of their activities monitored and recorded by security personnel authorized by ERCOT (and such monitoring and recording will be conducted). Anyone accessing the secured ERCOT websites expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals evidence of possible abuse or criminal activity, system personnel may provide the results of such monitoring to appropriate law enforcement agencies. Unauthorized attempts to upload or change information on, or otherwise cause damage to, the ERCOT secured websites, are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
