System Protection Working Group
The System Protection Working Group (SPWG), reporting to the Reliability and Operations Subcommittee (ROS), is responsible for reviewing and coordinating protective relay-scheme design and performance standards and practices. These bear on the reliability of the ERCOT Interconnection in compliance with applicable ERCOT and North American Electric Reliability Council Operating Guides and other appropriate engineering criteria.
The SPWG is responsible to support the investigation, analysis, evaluation and documentation of ERCOT system disturbance events in cooperation with the other working groups as well as ERCOT. The SPWG considers reliability as its prime objective, with consideration given to economics or other factors as appropriate.
ERCOT SPWG meetings will include both open and closed sessions. Participation in open sessions is not limited to particular types of individuals. Closed sessions are limited to particular types of individuals who must sign the appropriate ERCOT Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and receive approval from ERCOT. Contact ERCOT Legal at nda@ercot.com to ask questions or obtain a copy of the ERCOT NDA. Additional information on closed sessions is contained in the SPWG Charter.
