Operating Procedures
ERCOT documents its processes and procedures for reliable daily grid operation and emergency actions. Locate these procedures below.
ERCOT sometimes uses Temporary Changes that are separate from the actual procedure. These can be found in the Power Operations Bulletins section of this site. Please note that some Temporary Changes contain market sensitive or protected information. This small set of special procedures containing market sensitive information is not posted.
Communication Protocols Procedure
This procedure provides System Operators predefined communication protocols that reduce the possibility of miscommunication that could lead to action or inaction harmful to the reliability of the BES. This procedure satisfies applicable requirements for NERC Reliability Standard COM-002-4; November 1, 2024, version 1.0 Rev 11.
DC Tie Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the DC Tie Desk, which is responsible for energy transactions into and out of the ERCOT grid across the DC Ties; August 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 76.
ERCOT DC Tie Operations
NERC Tagging, Interchange Scheduling, Normal and Emergency Operations, and Inadvertent Accounting. Detailed process for monitoring and controlling inadvertent flows across the DC Ties.
Non-Spinning Reserve Deployment and Recall Procedure
View TAC approved high level ERCOT process for the deployment and recall of Non-Spinning Reserve (Non-Spin).
Operating Procedures Development and Maintenance
Process for initial development, review, approval, control, distribution, archiving, temporary change and revision of operating procedures used within ERCOT System Operations, including steps to assist the procedure developer in determining content and task details; March 9, 2018, version 1.0, rev 15.
Real-Time Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the Real Time Desk, which is responsible to maintain adequate regulation and ensuring system frequency remains within the tolerance; December 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 100.
Reliability Risk Desk Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the Reliability Risk Desk, which is responsible to monitor the accuracy of renewable forecasts and generation, maintain sufficient frequency responsive reserves and maintain sufficient temporally available capacity to cover remaining forecast errors and net load ramps within the tolerance; October 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 36.
Reliability Unit Commitment Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC) Desk is responsible for the oversight of the WRUC, DRUC, and HRUC grid reliability; December 29, 2023, version 1.0, rev 75.
Resource Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the Nodal Resource Desk, which monitors Ancillary Services to ensure QSEs are meeting their A/S obligations, execute SASM, deploy Non-Spin and Load Resource; December 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 82.
Scripts
Manual is intended to facilitate the critical communication process in which TOs and QSEs are required to repeat hotline calls. The manual consists of typical scripts in which the words may vary based on the situation. The scripts are separated for TOs and QSEs so that they can be located quickly to ensure effective communications between ERCOT and operating personnel; December 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 61.
Shift Supervisor Operating Procedure
Manual providing the ERCOT Shift Supervisor with the information to assist in addressing technical, operational issues, system performance and reports; December 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 98.
ERCOT-SPP Coordination Plan
Procedures concerning the use and operation of Switchable Generation Resources, Block Load Transfers, and DC Ties that impact the ERCOT and SPP regions.
ERCOT-MISO Coordination Plan
Procedures concerning Switchable Generation Resources and Block Load Transfers in connection with Emergency Conditions in both the ERCOT and MISO regions.
Transmission and Security Operating Procedure
Procedure for the system operator assigned to the Nodal Transmission and Security Desk, which monitors system performance as well as planned and forced outages; December 1, 2024, version 1.0, rev 116.
