Lubbock Power and Light Customers Welcomed into the ERCOT System
(Austin, TX) – ERCOT today announced the final transition of all remaining Lubbock Power and Light (LP&L) customers to the ERCOT bulk electric system. The first phase of customer integration occurred over Memorial Day weekend in 2021, and the completion of the final phase marks the conclusion of the largest single transfer of customers in ERCOT’s history.
“We welcome all LP&L customers to the ERCOT system,” said ERCOT President and CEO Pablo Vegas. “This significant milestone is the culmination of over eight years of study and planning and opens the retail service area for customers to take advantage of our competitive wholesale market and electric rates.”
The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved LP&L’s application to join the ERCOT system on March 8, 2018. The approval of LP&L’s integration into the ERCOT system set the path for Lubbock to be the first major Texas city to integrate into the ERCOT market in nearly 25 years.
This final integration prepares LP&L for their planned switch to Retail Choice scheduled to begin in March 2024. Customers who have moved into ERCOT should visit the LP&L website for more information.
